History of BDCP

The Bioresources Development and Conservation Programme was established in 1991 at the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Originally formed as the conservation wing of the Biotechnology Development Agency, it has since achieved independent status. The international programme was formally established in the Earth Conference in Rio (UNCED) at an African forum on biodiversity conservation
